Indigo Bunting, Male


This picture was taken on January 20th, 2009 at the Bentsen Rio Grande Valley State Park, Mission, Tx. This is winter plummage. In the summer, the male is completely blue.

    The gorgeous shocking blue iridescence makes me think
    of tropical fish.

    I much prefer feathers to
    scales, though.
