These pictures were taken on November 21st, 2009 at Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort, Mission Texas.

Cross Spider

This picture was taken on November 23rd, 2009 at the NABA Butterflly Park, Mission Texas. I think it is a member of the Cross Spider family, but I don't know the exact name. If you do, please let me know. Spiders have 8 legs compared to insects which usually have 6. Spiders also have. As well, spiders usually have 8 eyes. Double click on the image to enlarge it and see how many eyes you can count. I wish I would have got another shot of this guy to show the eyes a lot better. I think there is 8 eyes on the back section of his body but there are 4 more spots on the front part of his body that could be eyes. What do you think? I would love to hear from someone that knows more about spiders than me.

Black Witch Moth

This picture was taken on November 20th, 2009 at Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort Mission, Texas. This is the largest moth in North America with a wingspan of up to 7", and has considerable folklore surrounding it. The Aztecs used to believe that if someone was sick and the Black Witch Moth entered the house, the sick person would die. The Mexicans had a similar belief except that the Moth had to visit all four corners of the house. A more recent Mexican belief is that if a Black Witch Moth lands on you, you'll win the lottery. So bring on the Black Witches but don't let them into the house.

White Satin Moth

Florida Purplewing

These pictures were taken on November 24th, 2009 at NABA Butterfly Park, Mission Texas. This is a very rare butterfly and only occurs in the southern most tip of Florida and occassionally in Southern Texas. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get a picture of him with his wings spread apart as it's the upper part of his wings that are so beautiful.

Question Mark Butterfly

These pictures were taken on November 12th, 2009 at NABA Butterfly Park, Mission Texas. Yes, the correct name is "Question Mark". Apparently they got their name from the white marks on the underside of the wing. I guess to some people it looks like a question mark. I must not have my glasses on straight.
