What exactly are these not so little guys? I originally thought they were common flickers, but saw something like it labeled as a sap-sucker maybe? Also as a red-bellied. We get them at our feeder a lot. They make a noise that is sort of like barking. Our Quaker has picked it up.

Hi Pat; thanks for all the comments. The Red Bellied and the Flicker are related in that they're both woodpeckers. If you go further back in my posts, you'll see a picture of a Flicker.

Hey Fred -- Our Red-bellied (with their red "cap" that has to be what they are) seems to have the body coloring like the other kind of flicker -- I think red-shafted? But they sure don't have the spots the flicker you captured does. Great pics you have posted! Is there anyway to post a page that lists all of them alphabetically? YOu have a greater variety that then bird books and it helps me understand better what I am seeing. Thank you so much!
