Ringed Kingfisher

This picture was taken on December 23rd, 2009 on the Old Military Road, Mission Texas. This is the largest Kingfisher in North America and measures about 15.5" in length. for nesting, they make a hole in the bank of a river or stream and lay their eggs on a bed of fish bones. Both male and female take part in digging the hole, incubating the eggs and rearing the young.

Fred, you are very talented. I have often tried capturing some of the beautiful birds we have here, but they just look dull sitting on the line.. May you have a blessed 2010!
